Feedback is one of the most powerful influences on learning, however no teacher can provide all students with individualized feedback. But maybe they shouldn’t? Under the right conditions, students can benefit from providing and receiving feedback from themselves and each other. In fact, peer feedback and self-assessment have been shown to teach students how to think and speak like artists, in addition to manage their own learning. In this workshop you will learn how to effectively implement student-centered feedback processes using formative assessment techniques that have been successfully utilized in arts educators’ classrooms.
Narciso Arguelles
Art Teacher, Crossings Christian School, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Narciso Arguelles has his Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Irvine, and he has taught as a college professor in California and Oklahoma. During this time, Narciso also began working for The College Board as an AP Art and Design Reader, and he currently teaches at Crossings Christian School in Oklahoma City. As an artist he has exhibited across the United States and around the world.
Heidi Andrade
Professor, University at Albany (SUNY)
Heidi Andrade’s work focuses on the relationships between learning and formative assessment. She has written many articles, including an award-winning article on rubrics for educational leadership, and several books on classroom assessment. Her long-term collaboration with arts educators has produced a collection of formative assessments for the arts: http://artsassessmentforlearning.org/about-assessment.
